Students were given the task of finding information on the web about Bitmap and Vector Graphics. They had to make a summary of approx 25 words for each and present it in a poster utilising either/or Photoshop and Illustrator. Homework was given out that designs must be completed and placed on Photobucket ready for presentation next day. Also students were asked to submit their Task 8 assessment - report on Bitmap and Vector Graphics - approx 250 words
Evaluation: Very Good. Students worked very hard on the work but end designs were slightly disappointing. They appeared to either concentrate on the design or on the summaries. Only a few managed to do both.

23 October 2006 HND 2D Animation
Students were shown an example banners and asked to make one based on the request for a website from Dunfermline Football Club. The Pars FC excited quite a few of them. Students were directed to the 2D Animation Videos which could be helpful in the construction of the animated banners. Students constructed the banners and placed on photobucket. Students who completed the task were asked to create image maps based on a written tutorial. Emails were sent as reminders to students that they should all submit banner to photobucket and image map by Monday next.

HN Graphics - Wednesday 11 October 2006
Students who had completed evaluations of each others artwork handed in typed copies. Less than 50% participated in this activity. Students were given demos by Gillian on how to enhance text in Illustrator and subsequently create text style logos for the training restaurant at Lauder and also asked to create new name for the restaurant. Subsequently students were asked to submit their creations to the Photobucket website for exhibition.
Students were also pointed in the direction of several video tutorials which would help them be more creative with their restaurant logos.
Students were also given an overview of the assessment. This assessment requires the student to create briefs for many of the tasks involved in the assessment.
Students are also arranging a trip to Dynamic Earth as a social activity and I suggested that they might wish to entwine assessment tasks with this activity.
Evaluation: Students engaged enthusiastically on logos for the restaurant. Most students appeared to watch the video tutorials and implemented the learning. Students appeared to think that assessment was very large for Graphics Unit. Many pages but actual tasks reasonably small.

Individual Student Interviews where I enquire how the students are enjoying, progressing on their course. Any worries, problems, etc
Also informed students that I would be sending out details about how to set up a reflective blog. This blog would only be viewable to them and members of staff. They should record what they have learned in a particular class and evaluate their learning and any further work they might have to do in order to improve their learning. I emailed out details with an example of what I was recording in a blog about my teaching and subsequent evaluation.
Evaluation: Students appear to enjoy personal interviews and i find them particularly useful in seeing the full picture of a student. One student emailed me to state that he though blog a good idea. Time will tell.

2D Animation HNC
Students created website with me doing a bit and them doing a bit. All completed successfully, eventually. Students then have to complete their own website on their own. Second half of the morning. Task: Students had to create small animation (working in pairs) connected with Dunfermline and include video or Still Images of Dunfermline and also include motion guides. Animation could be any length - quality the priority. Students were directed to teaching videos on Motion Guides, and Tracing Bitmap Images which I indicated could help with the animation quality. Students had to place completed animations onto the Photobucket Site.
Evaluation: Excellent for task. Very Good for the website (Real test for this aspect really only seen when the student builds their own website in Flash without any input from me)
HNC Graphics
Students were shown a website with hundreds of different types of logos. Students were given the task of individually creating 5 different logos for themselves and to the following themes - Futuristic, gender, metaphorical, traditional, text only. Students on completion had to place onto the Photobucket site. prior to completion of the logos students were advised to watch 6 training videos for Illustrator. Student evaluations of the logos will take place next Wednesday.
Evaluation: Excellent. Students worked very hard on thier logos and the most successful had watched all of the videos prior to completion.

Class continued creating their Band website and it was discussed what website we would display the interfaces for both the Garden centre web interface and band interface on. Suggestions were for either Photobucket or Flickr. The following is an extra which is used for displaying work on the web. These pics were displayed on Photobucket. Students were asked to state good and bad points about each piece of artwork. Owner was also asked to state how they carried out a piece of work. homework was to make a comment one good and one bad about every artwork piece by next Wednesday as class was reluctant to say anything about interfaces and most did not participate in this exercise.
Evaluation: Good for the work. Class evaluation on part of the students: poor
